Saint Lucia will welcome around 170 delegates for the Junior Chamber International (JCI) West Indies National Convention, set for October 7 to 10 at Bay Gardens. The event is aimed at young people who want to make a positive difference in their communities.
JCI, also known as the Jaycees, is a global non-profit for young people aged 18 to 40. It focuses on leadership development, community service, and entrepreneurship, empowering youth to create positive change in their local communities and around the world.
The convention is an annual event for the National Organisation, hosted in a different location each year.
To help plan the convention, JCI West Indies President Regina Bunbury visited Saint Lucia from June 12 to 17. She told reporters on Monday that expectations for the event are high.
“This is my official visit to JCI Saint Lucia as the National President,” she said. “We’ve made some great impact and progress so far”
“I’m also here to bring the highlight of JCI Saint Lucia to Saint Lucia, to the people of Saint Lucia. JCI Saint Lucia was re-affiliated with JCI West Indies last year, and they are recruiting members. They need more people on deck to work.
“If someone is looking to build themselves, to learn skills in entrepreneurship and personal development, they want a network, they’re passionate about community action or community development, JCI Saint Lucia is that organisation that I will encourage any young person between ages 18 to 40 to join and be a part of this great movement that has been in existence since 1915.”
The local JCI President, Shan Lucien, first joined the organisation when she was crowned Jaycees Queen in 2024. This ended a 39-year gap since her country last won the title in 1985. She said that preparations for the convention are going well and stressed that the event will be a transformative experience for everyone involved.
“We are also going to be networking because we have individuals in various professions around the region who are capable, who have experience, and so the convention serves as a platform for us to be able to get and share that experience from and with each other”
