“A place where competition meets paradise,” says Royron Adams, Manager of Golf Saint Lucia Inc.
The highly anticipated return of the Saint Lucia Golf Open is set to attract approximately 120 participants, marking its place as a premier event on the island’s sports calendar.
Scheduled from April 30 to May 3, 2026, at the Sandals Golf & Country Club in Cap Estate, this tournament will feature 54 holes of championship play, including professional and amateur divisions, showcasing regional talent.
During a media launch on Thursday, Adams expressed enthusiasm about the event’s return, highlighting the diverse categories available to foster participation from professional, amateur, and junior players.
Referring to the competition as “the Jewel of our Annual Event Calendar,” Adams noted, “It is not simply about the tournament; it is a statement about who we are as a sporting nation, what we are capable of organizing, and how high we are willing to go.”
He added, “We welcome players and their families from across the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, and beyond. We anticipate over 120 visitors, including players, parents, spouses, and supporters.”
Adams emphasized that the competition spans 54 holes over four days at the Sandals Golf & Country Club, regarded as one of the finest courses in the Eastern Caribbean. He stated, “The diverse categories ensure that golfers at every stage of their journey have the opportunity to compete, grow, and shine.”
The event supports the Play Saint Lucia brand, positioning the island not just as a beach destination but as a world-class sporting venue—a true paradise for competition.
Collaboration with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) has elevated the island’s profile on the international sporting calendar, attracting visitors who stay longer, spend more, and return year after year.
Adams emphasized that golf transcends societal status and stigmas and is fostered through grassroots programs. “The Saint Lucia Open is not just a flagship competition; it is the driving force behind our youth development programs.”
He highlighted the significant economic impact of the event on the local economy.
Dr. Uralis Delaire, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, described the upcoming competition as an “exciting and professionally run 54-hole event.” She expressed pride in hosting 120 participants, viewing it as a strong vote of confidence in Saint Lucia as a sporting destination.
“Sports do more than create moments of excitement; they build character, strengthen communities, and open doors for our young people,” she added.
Chris Gustave, SLTA’s Marketing Manager for Caribbean Events and Sports, noted that the event blends competition with healthy lifestyle, with the venue amplifying the tournament’s atmosphere while showcasing the island’s unique beauty.
Tournament Director Habib Chreiki provided details on the event’s format, categories, participation, and schedule, revealing that top-ranked professional golfers from around the globe will compete alongside regional players for various prizes and trophies.
In the Professional Division, a monetary prize of USD 12,000 will be up for grabs. Other categories include a world-ranked Championship Division, Men’s Division, Women’s Division, Senior Division, and Masters Division for those aged 60 and over. Young golfers will have a platform to showcase their skills, and local volunteers will ensure the event runs smoothly.
Join in the fun for this exceptional event that promises to be a highlight on the sporting calendar!
