Police have confirmed that the victim of a violent altercation following a community J’ouvert in Babonneau remains in stable condition, as investigations into the incident continue.
The altercation occurred last Sunday as the J’ouvert festivities were winding down, and resulted in one individual being hospitalised.
Video footage obtained by St Lucia Times shows a brawl involving four men along the main Babonneau thoroughfare, a short distance from the Babonneau Police Station.
The men can be seen hurling missiles at each other as several people look on. During the confrontation, one of the men fell to the ground and was subsequently struck on the head with what appeared to be a rock. The individuals involved then fled the scene.
Providing an update during a police press conference on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elvis Thomas, who is attached to the Northern Division, confirmed that the victim is recovering.
“I can report that the individual, or the victim in that particular matter, remains in a stable condition and is recovering, and investigations are continuing in this matter,” Thomas told reporters.
Police have not disclosed the identity of the victim or indicated whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
