Saint Lucian students entering the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill or St Augustine campuses this September are invited to a special meet-and-greet designed to help them settle into university life before classes begin.
The Saint Lucia Students’ Association at Cave Hill (LUSAC) and the Saint Lucia Students’ Association in Trinidad and Tobago (LUSATT) are hosting the event on Saturday, August 8 at Pigeon Island National Landmark in Gros Islet.
Designed for both incoming and current students, the gathering will provide an opportunity to network, build friendships and hear firsthand about life at university from returning students. Attendees will also be able to meet the executive members of LUSAC and LUSATT and learn about the programmes, services and support offered by the two student associations.
Students who are still thinking about applying to UWI Cave Hill or St Augustine are also welcome. John Tench, president of LUSAC, told St Lucia Times that the event is a great chance to ask questions, learn about campus and academic life, and make informed choices before starting university.
Free transportation will be provided from Castries to Pigeon Island and back, and light refreshments will be available for everyone.
According to LUSAC, building connections before students arrive on campus helps create a supportive community and makes the transition to university life smoother. The association is encouraging prospective, incoming and returning Saint Lucian students to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with their peers before the new academic year begins.
