High jumper Destinee Cenac kicked off the 2026 Windward Islands School Games with a stellar performance, earning Team Saint Lucia its first gold medal. She cleared 1.65 meters in the Girls’ High Jump during the athletics meet at Mindoo Phillip Park on Saturday, marking a significant achievement for the home team.
The 2026 Carifta Games gold medalist showcased her remarkable talent as the games unfold from July 24 to August 2.
Though Saint Lucian athletes performed favorably the home team finished fourth place overall in a competitive atmosphere.
Jemi Neptune from Grenada secured the silver medal with a clearance of 1.60 meters, while fellow Saint Lucian Lizzy Dorvius took home bronze with a jump of 1.50 meters.
Grenada triumphed in the track and field events, finishing as the overall champions with 282 points, while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines followed in second with 220 points. The Commonwealth of Dominica came in third with 207 points, and host nation Saint Lucia placed fourth with 193 points.
Saint Lucia’s achievements continued with another gold medal, thanks to Barbara-Marie Maximin, who soared to 5.84 meters in the Girls’ Long Jump. Darvin Forde also stood out in the Boys’ Long Jump, with an impressive leap of 7.06 meters, while Jaequan Joseph dominated the Boys’ Javelin with a throw of 57.50 meters.

– Omarion Edwin – silver in the Boys’ 1500 meters (4:31.83 seconds) The Saint Lucian quartet comprising Lizzy Dorvius, Darla Dupre, Barbara-Marie Maximin, and Nyella Cox won silver in the Girls’ 4×100 meters relay with a time of 50.32 seconds.
In the Girls’ 4×400 meters relay, Zoya Alexander, Isabella Emilien, Mckayla Olivier, and Nyella Cox powered to bronze in 4:14.13 seconds. The Boys’ team of Kadan Sam, Omarion Edwin, Josiah Dupre, and Evann John thrilled the crowd with a silver finish in the 4×400 meters, clocking in at 3:22.17 seconds.
