Caribbean Basketball: Strengthening Global Participation

Leslie Collymore, President of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC), expresses optimism about the professional development of regional athletes in basketball.

The Saint Lucian administrator praised the recent performances of national teams representing the Caribbean on the global stage.

In celebration of this growth, the CBC highlights the increasing international presence of its member federations in FIBA qualifiers, world championships, and multi-sport games planned for 2026.

Teams from the Caribbean have showcased their talent in both men’s and women’s basketball across various age groups and formats, including 3×3 and 5×5. This representation encompasses CBC member nations across English, French, Dutch, and Spanish-speaking regions, including Haiti, Suriname, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

“The level of Caribbean participation in 2026 reflects the continued growth, diversity, and competitiveness of basketball across our region,” said the CBC President.

He emphasized that, “Our athletes are representing their countries with pride at every level of the game. From youth competitions to senior World Cup qualification, and from 3×3 to 5×5, the Caribbean is not just participating—we are competing, qualifying, and making our presence felt internationally.”
