Nominations for the closely watched Castries Central constituency were completed this morning at the CSA Centre in Sans Souci, where three contenders – UWP candidate Rosh Clarke, SLP candidate Richard Frederick and independent candidate Stanley Felix – were formally entered into the upcoming general election.

First to arrive was Frederick, accompanied by his supporters. Speaking to journalists, Frederick emphasised his commitment to the people of the constituency, stating, “I made a lot of sacrifices. My sacrifice is to ensure that we eradicate poverty.” He added that this dedication is why “thousands of people follow me…because of the quality of representation”.

One of his supporters echoed this sentiment, praising the SLP candidate’s record in the community. “Richard Frederick is a man of his word; he has helped the needy and a lot of young people,” the supporter said, highlighting the MP’s work with the poor and elderly of Castries Central.
Shortly after Frederick and his supporters began leaving the site, Felix arrived, walking directly through the cluster of SLP supporters,
His entrance coincided with the arrival of the UWP team, creating a moment of heightened activity outside the nomination centre, underscoring the intensity surrounding this race..
Felix maintained confidence stating, “My chances are as good as any of the candidates.” He outlined several priorities for Castries Central should he become parliamentary representative, including upgrades to infrastructure both within the city and across neighbouring communities.
“For too long the surrounding communities have been neglected,” he said, noting especially the need for improved sidewalks and transportation to bring “new life” to the constituency.

Felix described his campaign experience as “wonderful,” adding that he had met many people who, in his words, “embody the spirit of orange”.
Clarke also presented his vision for the constituency before entering the nomination centre.

Clarke’s plan is built around four central pillars: easing traffic congestion, expanding sporting opportunities including a proposed multi-purpose sporting arena, enhancing healthcare through a 24-hour clinic, and improving housing conditions for residents.
In a rare moment of unity amid the charged atmosphere, both Clarke and Felix were seen warmly embracing supporters of their opponents outside the venue.
