The destruction and theft of a 40-foot road safety billboard has left the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Project (MHWCRRP) disheartened.
The PMU said that the billboard, which was located near the Cul De Sac roundabout, was dismantled last weekend, and the plywood backing and supporting frame were stolen.
“It is deeply disappointing that a public safety installation designed to protect lives has been damaged in the course of theft,” Project Coordinator Amos Hippolyte said in a statement. “This campaign is about encouraging safer behaviour on our roads, and actions like these undermine a collective effort involving artists, partners, and institutions who have come together in the public interest.”
According to the PMU, the billboard, strategically placed along the project’s corridor to maximise visibility, was jointly developed through collaboration with Ricky T and Stratosphere Music. It featured the quote, “I drive to arrive alive” alongside an image of Ricky T.
The billboard was erected in a temporarily donated space following the December 1, 2025 general election.
The Cul De Sac installation was one of multiple billboards placed along the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road corridor as part of the MHWCRRP’s Road Safety Public Education Campaign, which was launched in October.
The PMU is pleading with members of the public who may have information relating to last weekend’s incident to contact the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
