A Soufriere man has been fined $200 000 after pleading guilty to nine drug-related offences stemming from the seizure of controlled drugs at the Vieux Fort Port earlier this week.
Tony Paul, alias “Abra”, appeared before the Second District Court on Thursday and was ordered to pay the fine by December 31, 2026. If he fails to do so, he will spend six years in prison.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, officers attached to the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, together with the Customs and Excise Department, conducted an operation at the Vieux Fort Port on Monday.
Police said a quantity of controlled drugs was recovered from a package concealed in buckets. The items seized included five packages of suspected cannabis resin and two packages of suspected cannabis.
Following investigations, police arrested Paul and a female suspect.
Both were jointly charged with three counts each of importation of controlled drugs, possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply, and possession of controlled drugs and appeared in court.
Following Paul’s guilty pleas, the prosecution withdrew all charges against the female accused.
