A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with the killing of popular sportsman Jevauny Darrion Kimani Roberts, whose body was discovered at his Sunny Acres, Castries residence in May.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) announced that Rufinus Edwin, also known as “Yanick,” of Bagatelle, Marchand, has been formally charged with Roberts’ homicide following weeks of investigation.
Police said the lifeless body of the 32-year-old Roberts was discovered at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, with what appeared to be a wound to his neck. Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department and the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and immediately launched a homicide investigation.
A post-mortem examination conducted on May 28 determined that Roberts died as a result of an incised wound to the anterior neck, confirming the death as a homicide.
According to the RSLPF, officers from the Major Crimes Unit, working alongside the Special Patrol Team and the Special Services Unit, carried out a joint operation on Wednesday, July 1, during which Edwin was arrested.
Police said Edwin was formally cautioned and charged on Sunday, July 5, at approximately 10:57 a.m. in connection with the homicide. He subsequently appeared before the First District Court in Castries, where he was remanded into custody until August 11, 2026.
The Major Crimes Unit also expressed gratitude to members of the public for their assistance throughout the investigation.
“The Major Crimes Unit wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to members of the public for their continued cooperation during the homicide investigations. Your willingness to provide information, assist investigators and your efforts played a vital role in bringing offenders to justice and providing closure to families,” the police said.
