The United States Embassy in Bogotá has issued a warning urging all American citizens currently in Venezuela to leave the country, stating that “the security situation in Venezuela remains fluid.” The advisory, dated January 10, 2026, follows the recent bombings by the Trump administration in Venezuela and the subsequent capture and detention of President Nicolás Maduro.
According to the embassy’s statement, there have been multiple reports of armed militias, known as colectivos, establishing roadblocks and searching vehicles for evidence of US citizenship or support for the United States. The embassy emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among US citizens in the coming days.
The advisory also reiterated the longstanding travel warning against Venezuela and noted that, with the resumption of international travel, US citizens now have viable options to depart the country.
