A woman is dead following a shooting in Bexon on November 12. According to reports, emergency personnel responded at approximately 8:17 p.m. to an “alleged gunshot wounding.” Upon arrival at the scene, the victim, now identified as 35-year-old Finola McLauren, was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and presented with negative vital signs.

The fire service explained that “life-saving interventions were performed and she was taken to a medical facility for advanced medical care.” However, the victim later succumbed to her injuries.

The mother of two leaves behind a grieving family, including her son and daughter. Two sisters, who asked to remain anonymous, told St. Lucia Times that while they were unsure about the details of the ongoing investigation, the pain of the loss cuts deep.

“I cannot tell you anything much. I got to know that my sister was murdered and… just a sad moment for everybody, all of us,” one said. “My sister was a jovial person, outgoing, sweet, always there for somebody, always there for all of us. She would leave herself behind and provide for her brothers and sisters and everybody… We’re devastated.”

The other heartbroken sister noted that the social commentary online has only made a terrible situation worse, stating: “I went on Facebook and then I saw a picture of her and then I read the comments and it’s disgusting. Lucians are very disgusting. How would they say it’s because of politics that happened to her? What politics have to do with that?”

The family and community are calling for an end to the violence and for justice for McLauren.
